24 Hour Songwriting Challenge

One of the great, relatively new, joys of the Fall for me is unpackaging and arranging all of the submissions to SIMGE’s annual 24 Hour Songwriting Challenge. The 3rd one just went down on October 1st and I am now happy to announce that SIMGE will be unveiling the full compilation on October 26th!

The proceeds from this year’s challenge will go to City of Angels NJ who are, “committed to helping those who suffer from the disease of alcohol and/or drug addiction.” I’m also happy to share that EightSixteen Studios is back on board as an official sponsor. The band/artist with the most individual track downloads (or has their name mentioned in a note for a full compilation purchase) will win studio time at EightSixteen to pro record their submission or a song of their choice.

Yesterday, our friend Jim Appio over at CoolDad Music unveiled Fruit & Flowers’ challenge submission, the riveting rocker “Way Out.” Jim shares:

“On October 1st, I was at Wonder Bar to see Tacocat, Dude York, and Sharkmuffin. The members of Fruit & Flowers had made their way down to Asbury Park from Brooklyn to see the show. They were there to see Tacocat and to support their buds in Sharkmuffin even as the clock was ticking down to the deadline for their Speak Into My Good Eye 24-hour Songwriting Challenge submission. At various times throughout the night, guitarist Ana Becker and bassist Caroline Yoder had to excuse themselves from conversation to head out to the parking lot and put some finishing touches on the song in their tour van.”

Fruit & Flowers are also the selection of CooDad Music for Speak Into My Good Eye’s first Blox Cord showcase at The Footlight on November 3rd. The new monthly showcase will feature SIMGE inviting three other writers/label owners/etc to each book a band. Joining Fruit & Flowers will be Slonk Donkerson as chosen by SIMGE, Leland Sundries picked by Elmore Magazine and The Vaughns reppin’ The Joy of Violent Movement. More details here.

Be sure to stream Fruit & Flowers’ “Way Out” below and look for the full 3rd Annual 24 Hour Songwriting Challenge compilation out October 26th, 2016.
