After touring behind their successful self-titled debut, BEAK> entered the studio to record a follow up with some disparaging results. It seemed as though the creative energy that had so propelled the band earlier had now gone after being bogged down by the rigors of the road.
As the story goes:
“Until… One rainy afternoon in Bristol after many tortured, truly terrible recording sessions something changed. It may have been the diesel fumes from the bands tour splitter bus had worn off, others say that the band simply turned their amplifiers down. We will possibly never know the true events of that afternoon but the band began to play and, once again as before, their bleak, wobbly anti-blue note sound had returned, but this time with added synthesizers.”
With that Geoff Barrow of Portishead (drums), Matt Williams (keys-axe), and Billy Fuller (bass) returned to their previous form as BEAK> with live improv sessions resulting in the follow up >> continued notoriety as the album landed on a litany of end of year lists in 2012. Now the trio will bring their latest effort to life as they embark on a short US jaunt including a date at the Bowery Ballroom on February 10th.
