Our love for the Asbury Park-based indie-rock group Dentist extends a long ways back here on the ol’ Good Eye. It’s been a hot minute since their last LP, Ceilings, dropped but that doesn’t mean that the band hasn’t been busy since.
In the middle of last year, Dentist dropped a standalone single, “The Latter,” which builds off of Ceilings‘ pitch-perfect surf-pop stylings and pours some gasoline on top pushing ahead at an incendiary pace. Now, we have a video for “The Latter” which SIMGE friend Dana Yurcisin helmed.
“The idea with the video was to make literal the central concept of the song: blaming oneself for romantic failures,” shares Yurcisin. “Instead of taking the often tread route of showing a relationship in decay, we thought it’d be interesting to play with the idea of an actual second self, a doppelgänger containing all of her flaws, self-destructive tendencies, etc. She’s her own living nightmare.”
Watch Dentist in “The Latter” below, peep their SXSW schedule here and be sure to catch them before they leave for Austin at The Saint along with The Black Clouds, Baked, Russian Baths and Grace Vonderkuhn on February 22nd.
