PhoenixPhoenix’s synth-riddled pop melodics have scratched and clawed into the interior lining of my brain stem as much as they have yours, if not more.  As one of two SIMGE members (the other being Senior Editor Mike Mehalick) who saw this French import liftoff from a launch pad located under Bonnaroo’s That Tent in 2009 and develop into a legitimate Lollapalooza headliner four years later, we’re well versed in the sugary sweet stylings of Thomas Mars and friends.  However, too much syrup can cause a disruption in your guts. Thankfully J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr. are on the case.

Recently the legendary axe noodler and his Amherst, MA outfit tackled Phoenix’s new single “Entertainment”, offering a more sincere rendition of this piece, one that challenges the lure of the original and may, in time, surpass its prevalence…at the very least you’ll be forced to take not of the masterful guitar solos. Stream the crunchy reworking below.
