You know how you and your friends at the office joke about that band you’re going to form one day? You might have even come up with some terrible monikers like the ones I have saved on a running list on my phone that are not for public consumption whatsoever.
Oakland math-prog-rockers Dad Jokes spawned in this particular way with vocalist/guitarist Chris Tubbs, guitarist Chase Farmer and drummer Ryan Krage all at coming together after hours at their Bay Area music tech jobs.”
Given their physical origins, it should come as no surprise that Dad Jokes’ overall sound is complex, technically precise and progressive. Leaving it at that and not pressing play, however, would lead you to miss out on the band’s exuberant natural energy that injects a catharsis into everything they create.
Now, Dad Jokes are prepping for the release of their latest EP, Dad Max, with Speak Into My Good Eye hosting the premiere of the title track today.
The band shares:
“‘Dad Max’ is the first track of the musical journey through some thoughts on fatherhood. It takes a somewhat cautiously optimistic view of what it may be like to be a father. Part of the contemplation includes what will be left behind when you pass and the responsibilities of passing down what you’ve learned to shape a new human you created.
The overall takeaway is it’s an intense but potentially rewarding task that is explored further in the following tracks.”
