Before Hurricane Sandy flooded out the old Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen studio, songwriter Greg Nissan recorded what would eventually comprise his debut LP as Ex-Pet. Working with Mama Coco head honcho Oliver Ignatius, the nine-track record, Green Accent, showed Nissan’s deft, eclectic ear for intricate guitar layering alongside some uptempo fuzz bangers.

Since then, Nissan has called a diverse triangle of cities home in New York, NY and Providence, RI with a move to Berlin most recent. Rare social media posts and the continental distance serves to shroud the future of Ex-Pet in some mystery, but we’ve got the fix for that.

Speak Into My Good Eye has the exclusive premiere of Ex-Pet’s new a/b-side single, “Summer Alone / Cat Got Yer,” below.

Recorded again with Ignatius before embarking to Berlin, the potential teased on Green Accent is further realized with these two singles. Styles rooted in punk and 60’s pop are run through a kaleidoscope as a full, robust and vibrant wall of sound surrounds you from the outset.

As a potential pivot point and outlook towards an artist’s future, it doesn’t get much better than the diverse, yet sonically harmonious psych-infused palette with which Ex-Pet is working with on “Summer Alone / Cat Got Yer.” Here’s hoping Nissan and Ignatius make it back into the studio together again sometime soon.
