Back in 2011, I had the good fortune of taking my senior year of college Spring Break overseas courtesy of Icelandair. Part of the in flight entertainment was a spotlight on Reykjavik artists outside of more well known artists like Bjork and Sigur Ros. The intensive, ethereal approach to songwriting came across as a trademark of the area’s produced talent with the same sentiment holding true in the music of songwriter Hek.
The artist now shares his third full length LP, Please Tease Me, exclusively with Speak Into My Good Eye available for streaming below. Please Tease Me was engineered by Þór Eldon, Björk’s ex-husband and former member of Icelandic sensation, The Sugarcubes.
The record finds a harmonious balance between Beck’s Sea Change and the up-tempo horns of Van Morrison or Spoon with an echoing presence all his own. Drawing inspiration from writers such as Jack Kerouac, Kurt Vonnegut and Hunter S. Thompson, Hek steps forward with a gorgeous collection of poetic, personal entries into a larger, sprawling musical journal.
Please Tease Me officially drops on August 12th, but we’ve got your exclusive first taste in full streamable below. Check out the latest from Hek and visit his website here for more.
