It’s been over four years since Pixl-Visionary, the recording project of Boonton-based artist Joe DeGroot, dropped its debut release, The Dry Season. Since putting out that collection of intimate, lo-fi acoustic tracks, Pixl-Visionary retreated back into itself, gestating into something bigger.

Little bread crumbs along the social media trail teased signs of things to come when this cocoon hatch would eventually spur, most notably this. (Joe must had been standing right by CoolDad and I). Without ditching the acoustic guitar, Pixl-Visionary will soon share the more fully realized vision, Shatterskin.

Speak Into My Good Eye is happy to host the exclusive premiere of album standout “Perfection/Abstraction” today. Produced by Steven Donahue (Young Legs, Trim Tabs, The Big Drops), “Perfection/Abstraction” takes about thirty seconds to rev its engine with atmosphere-establishing strums. Then it’s full systems go into an invigorating shoegaze/jangle-pop stratosphere as Pixl-Visionary subverts those genre norms at a breakneck pace.

DeGroot shares, “‘Perfection/Abstraction’ is one of the songs that best exemplifies the sound I was exploring with my new album, Shatterskin, a merging of confessional singer-songwriter music with experiments in structure and noise. It’s the loudest, most aggressive Pixl-Visionary song I’ve written, even though it’s still lyrically introspective.”

Stream Pixl-Visionary’s “Perfection/Abstraction” below and look for Shatterskin out August 30th via Mint 400 Records.
