As these things tend to happen, the story of Brooklyn-based rockers Sister James has been something of a slow burn turned incendiary now. Consisting of Ben Carbone (vocals, guitar), Quinn McGovern (vocals, keys, guitar), Peter Spengeman (bass) and Daniel Sweeney (drums), the assembled talent all have credits in other groups but have hit upon a diverse sound wholly the sum of their parts.
With a smattering of gigs out in the local scenes last year, Sister James went quiet for a bit until hints of new music on the way hit the interwebs at the beginning of this year. Now, the band is streaming their proper debut, the Look Away EP, with Speak Into My Good Eye happy to host its premiere today.
The twin killing of Carbone and McGovern tackle themes primarily having to do with the speeds, or lack thereof, of desires, relationships and the malaise that can cast a pall over either. McGovern and Spengemen sit at the center of the atmospheres whether is be the skittering opener “Dead Dog” or the hazy “Look Away” as the leads weave eclectic stylings throughout.
The band shares:
“We couldn’t be more excited about our debut release, Look Away. We are incredibly thankful for the love and support that has been gathered around these five songs.”
