Surfin' Mutants Pizza Party

I don’t know about you, but I happen it love it when a solo bedroom musical project comes out just right. There’s a fine line to tread between tinny acoustic numbers and over-stuffed, “important” statements.

Introducing Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party, the punk project of 21 year old Quebecker, Julien Maltais. After fronting various black metal bands, Maltais decided to lock himself up in a bedroom and create music inspired by his love of DIY punk, California surf punk, horror, sci-fi flicks, comics, video games, and skateboarding.

The result is the forthcoming debut LP The Death of Cool which is set for a May 19th release courtesy of the always rad Fleeting Youth Records. Speak Into My Good Eye has the exclusive premiere of the album’s first single, “Brain Avenue”, below.

On the track, Maltais weaves a storm of lead guitar lines underscored by a heavy bass line that would make Kid Is Qual proud. Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party manages to incorporate some digital beats on “Brain Avenue” as well, while lyrically traveling a little too far down the rabbit hole in wanting to know what someone’s thinking and finding some ugly truths. A great two minute pepperoni slice of fuzz-punk.

Stream Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party’s “Brain Avenue” below and be sure to pre-order The Death of Cool on cassette/digital formats via Fleeting Youth Records.
