An artist in transition in all phases of life, The Duke Of Surl‘s forthcoming album Out Of It finds Will Brown taking stock of his new surroundings in Milan, Italy and re-adjusting by doing what he knows how to do best; kick out the jams. Today, Speak Into My Good Eye has the exclusive premiere of the LP’s title track which is a chord chugging burner replete with ear-worm harmonies in the chorus and tailor-made for your next wood-panel encased drinking session.
“These songs were written right after I quit my job and moved to Italy,” Brown explains. “I know that music is at its best when it is collaborative, but writing and recording alone is the best way I know how to express myself. Taking a Tascam 388 I pulled out of a church basement in a nearby village, a 12 Watt (neighbor friendly) guitar amp I brought over in my carry-on luggage, and a few other do-dads, I set up a skeleton studio in my bedroom closet and set about doing just that. I wanted to see what I could do with these basic tools if I was freed from obligation and allowed to just create. That is what ‘Out Of It’ is all about. This record was written and recorded at a time when I was disconnected and in a place where I was on my own.”
