“The answer was right in front of you all along,” is a well traveled narrative trope, but when that epiphany strikes in reality minus a team of screenwriters, you have the formula for something really great when working creatively.
Started as the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Shawn Fogel, Golden Bloom has blossomed out as a proper band since its inception in 2009. With 2013’s No Day Like Today EP, Fogel invited live band members Josh Cohen, Jeff Patlingrao and Justin Hofmann into the studio to inject a new energy into those recordings.
Following the EP, Golden Bloom went to work on their most mature, deftly crafted and fully realized work to date, Searching For Sunlight. On the new album, Golden Bloom works for the first time as a four person songwriting unit with elements of genres all over the folk and rock spectrums blending harmoniously. Not unlike some of Wilco’s best work, Searching For Sunlight combines memorable lyrics dealing in harsh realities with beautiful melodies and textures framing the stark sonic back drop.
Speak Into My Good Eye is happy to host the exclusive premiere of Searching For Sunlight in full.
Fogel further shares, “Searching For Sunlight marks the completion of Golden Bloom’s transformation from my solo project to true collaboration. Every moment of music on this album is the product of either consensus or compromise. Whether it’s a guitar sound, a chord change, or the structure of a song, the parts that someone had to fight for ended up being the best parts of the album. We’re excited to share these songs with the world.”
