This week’s edition of Happy Mondays was just, incredible. High energy and great music from the get go. There was a last minute, out of town addition to the bill so we ended up being treated to four acts instead the normal three. There was a serious amount of intensity building as the night progressed.
Doug Zambon of The Vansaders kicked the night off with a rousing acoustic set. Maybe it is just me, but it seems like the last couple times I have seen him he sounds better and better.
The highlight of my night was the last minute addition. Coming up from Athens, Georgia for a tour of the Northeast, Monsoon gave us a really cool and very professional set. This alternative punk trio has personality and spirit along with a playfulness that interacted very well with the crowd and even with us photojournalists in attendance. For all you city dwellers, they will be in Brooklyn on the tenth, their last show before heading back south.
For the next set, The Black Sox Scandal kept the energy high with some really tight rhythm driven alternative sounds and then Franchise just left the place in shambles with a monstrous display of hard core rock-n-roll.
This was just the beginning of the month. On tap for next week’s festivities, Dark City Entertainment brings us Ottawa, on tour from Cleveland, along with Toms River natives Beachfire and Paris Under Fire. Let’s keep this month strong, come on out and support some local music, admission is free!
