Shaking off this years holiday season hiatus, I headed back out to a show at The Saint last Thursday and enveloped myself in a night of psychedelic haze. I figured this would be a great way to return to the fold, uncomplicated, straight ahead, moody tunes.
The highlight of the night for me was a four piece band out of NYC that was just finishing up a mini tour. Heaven gives you a low key haze, but with an edge. Dreamy and rhythmic. I could not see the drummer for most of the set through my lens, but the bass player was just super in his delivery. That would be in action and sound. Of course in my mind, both bass and drums are key in holding your attention and these guys were perfect. They had a tinge of INXS influence going on, and heavy influence from Psychedelic Furs. For local comparison, The Cold Seas come to mind. Their first single off the upcoming March 2nd release, All Love is Blue, is out on You tube and band camp. They will be out and about and on the road post release for more shows.
Starting off the night for us were The Tide Bends and Seaside Caves. Gods was on the original bill but had to cancel at the last minute due to that dreaded flu bug that is going around. Stepping in, Brother Andrew rounded up a few troops to close out the night.
