When I first got Tickets for the Shinedown/Badflower Show at The Arts Center I had no intention of shooting it. PNC BAC is not very friendly to Photo types, no official pit so you end up shooting in the side aisles, no center aisle allowed. It was just supposed to be our anniversary date. But of course as we got closer to the show I had to put in the request, could not pass up the opportunity to shoot Badflower again.
My wife and I are both big Shinedown fans, seen them quite a few times and it always a great show. The thing about seeing established bands multiple times is that they will frequently put on the same show as the last time you saw them. This happened last year when we saw Shinedown, but they altered it this time which was such a relief. The coolest part of the show is when Brent and Zach head up the lawn for a couple of songs, right in the middle of the crowd. Super great for fan interaction and those in the back to get up close and personal to the performers. This time the whole band spread out over the lawn and the 400 section and put in three songs. Not something you see every show, big respect to them for always doing that. They are returning to the area on September 21 for a performance at The Hard Rock in Atlantic City.
It was the fourth time covering Badflower in the past 8 months for me, Putting on the same show in this case does not apply. While they were a support act, they were on the big stage. It was incredible to see them have tons of room to maneuver. Have to say though, I do love seeing them in a smaller scenario. My wife is now a fan and understands what I have been raving about since December. She even downloaded the new record! They will be back in NJ sometime in the fall/early winter on a headlining tour, more on that when it officially gets announced.
Broken Hands took in the opening slot, followed up by Dinosaur Pile Up. DPU will be coming to The Saint in August for what is expected to be a rowdy show. These guys have been on my radar for a while, be good to see them in a setting not influenced by daylight. Things got a little sketchy Photo wise when Shinedown came on, Very little room to move around, but did what I could do.
