Growing up in New Jersey, SIMGE founder Chris Rotolo and I were extremely fortunate to have a plethora of talented, independent artists to cover when we were first starting out in our writing careers. We’ve also been lucky to meet, talk shop and collaborate with plenty of other music obsessives, with Jim Testa of the legendary Jersey Beat chief among them.
2017 marks Jersey Beat’s 35th anniversary and to celebrate, Testa has planned a big shindig at Maxwell’s featuring Richard Barone (Bongos,) Glenn Morrow (Individuals, Cry For Help,) the Cucumbers, Mod Fun, Tammy Faye Starlight, Alice and Karyn of Gutbank and Sexpod, Paul Richard (Adrenalin OD), Marc Maurizi (Cropduster), Tris McCall, the Negatones, and ‘lots more.’
“When I started Jersey Beat in 1982, I never dreamed I’d still be doing it 35 years later, but it’s even more amazing that I’ve kept many friends from those days,” shares Testa. “So think of this show as a reunion for the Class of ’82, and hopefully new fans will be inspired by the same talents that inspired me way back when.”
