The opening track for their eagerly anticipated Sub Pop debut, I Hear You, Arbor Labor Union‘s “Mr. Birdsong” is seven minutes of psych-tinged alt that packs a joyous, groovy punch. Those with a palate for Queens of the Stone Age will appreciate the band’s homage to the thick desert jam. The Georgia natives are also unlikely to shy away from referencing their Southern rock surrounds – take the song’s nosebleed intensity riffs as evidence.

Bo Orr’s distinctive howl soars over the track’s impressive, stomping heaviness, moving noisily and epically through a lush lyrical landscape. If they delivered tunes any less layered and thunderous, Arbor Labor Movement’s poetic and sonic grandiosity would leave them sounding big for their britches. Luckily, the instrumental intricacy of “Mr. Birdsong” is well-deserving of their darkly theatrical themes.

I Hear You will be out via Sub Pop on May 13th. Pre-order here and stream Arbor Labor Union’s “Mr. Birdsong” below.
