If lack of distinction is your gripe with music that falls under the “bedroom-pop” umbrella, then you should not rule out emerging artist Black Nash. Jody Smith, Army veteran and the individual behind the Black Nash moniker, seems to have drawn from a wide array of influences when creating his newest single “Alligator”.
The guitar-heavy track boasts bluesy riffs and lighthearted falsetto vocals juxtaposed against deeper, more emotive lyrics. The playfulness that accompanies the bedroom-pop genre is ever-present in Black Nash’s new single but still shares time with the track’s heavier tones.
The song is well-paired with its music video, which pleasantly reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite (either sincerity in silliness or silliness in sincerity, I can’t tell). Either way, the video highlights the tone of the song without hijacking meaning.
You can stream the music video for Alligator below as you wait for Black Nash’s debut self-titled album to come out on February 26th, 2020 via Ramp Local Records.
