Although Brooklyn-based rockers Caretaker have been out playing in the NYC scene for a hot minute, they’re only beginning to formally release music now. Comprised of Erin Pellnat (lead vox), Eva Lawitts (bass), Alex Pulakos (guitar), Damian Sim (keyboard) and Chris Krasnow (drums), the group has popped up on bills at AVIV, Brooklyn Bazaar, Trans- Pecos, Knitting Factory and, most recently, a residency at Pine Box Rock Shop.
The most recent round of gigs celebrated the unveiling of “Swallow,” Caretaker’s debut single. The track showcases the band’s undeniable energy and chemistry with Pellnat’s unique, powerful vocals soaring above a dynamic art-punk structure.
“‘Swallow’ is a song about being trapped in a relationship (or any situation, really) where someone is successful in convincing you that you are constantly wrong,” shares Pellnat. “This gets to the point where you believe everything they say, gladly taking punishment and abuse from them and wrongfully accepting that you deserve it. You know that you would feel completely contented and sane if you just cut ties so that their influence can disappear and you can set yourself free.”
