These are trying times, but Emily Kempf of Chicago’s Dehd wants to remind us that “it’s okay to be lighthearted in the face of despair”, and that there can be harmony between sadness and joy.
Dehd wrote their new single “Loner” in reflection of how overwhelming the process of touring can be, but this track can now be extrapolated to all of our own realities. The contemplative and solitary theme of this track blends well with the minimalist sound the band aims for in their upcoming album Flower of Devotion.
The composition of “Loner” is unmistakably spacious. This allows the thumping beating and shimmering guitars to give room to the experimental vocals which add another unique dimension.
