Last year, Speak Into My Good Eye first ran into the fabulously freaker Oakland-based rockers Everyone Is Dirty and their “Banana Split” video. Now, the band comprised of Sivan Lioncub (vocals/electric violin), Christopher Daddio (guitar/vocals), Tony Sales (drums/vocals) and Tyler English (bass) are getting ready to release a new LP, My Neon’s Dead, their first with OIM Records.
The album is a cathartic statement for the band, as it follows a near-death experience for Lioncub:
“Writing was something I could do from the hospital bed. I keep a journal, and my entries from that time are angry, or spaced out, hallucinating fantasies in a Dilaudid stupor. Many of the lyrics of the album were written during this time…My energy level was scary low, but we recorded anyway. Recording music was a total escape from otherwise terrifying times.”
My Neon’s Dead‘s first two singles, “San Andreas” and “Mermaid,” both carry a particular warped intensity with the former looking you straight in the eye and the latter bounding around the room covered in glitter. There may have been plenty of real world greys in the making of this record, but the latest from Everyone Is Dirty is pure, vibrant, kaleidoscopic rock.
