U.K.-based trio Fear of Men seem by no means afraid on “Trauma,” the emotionally in-your-face new single from their upcoming sophomore full-length, Fall Forever. The band has made a point of exploring dichotomy in their most recent work, whether playing with genre conventions or contrasting feelings. On this track, Fear of Men deal with being wronged head-on through a stripped-down ode to strength in the face of violation.
Soft, whirring electronics serve as an unlikely but beautifully melodic companion to snappy drums. Frontwoman Jessica Weiss’s cooing vocals let listeners close, her intimate, gentle delivery still managing to convey a sense of confessional urgency. The song’s bone-shaking sonic depth paired with steady-handed, confrontational clarity make it both a deeply personal diary entry and a piece of dark, of-the-moment pop.
Fear of Men’s Fall Forever will be out June 3rd on Kanine Records. Stream “Trauma” below.
