Gramma's Boyfriend

The always interesting Minneapolis music scene seems to be a place where collaboration is not only encouraged, but necessary to maintain the fluidity of fresh concepts. Now, Jeremy Ylvisaker (Andrew Bird, Alpha Consumer, Guitar Party), Jacob Hanson (Halloween, Alaska, Guitar Party, Minneapolis Dub Ensemble), Haley Bonar, Luke Anderson (Rogue Valley, Alpha Centauri), and Mike Lewis (Happy Apple, Fat Kid Wednesdays, Andrew Bird, Gayngs) combine to bring us Gramma’s Boyfriend.

The band’s first offering, “Forget The Stones,” combines eerie nostalgia with psych-dance-punk evoking a more 80’s demure-pop, 80’s inspired Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The undulating, reverb soaked bass, propulsive backbeat underscore Bonar’s dark, wistful croon as guitar and synth squiggles fly out like ghosts escaping into a night sky.

Give Gramma’s Boyfriend’s “Forget The Stones” a stream below, look for PERM out October 9th and keep an eye out on your favorite local venue’s show docket. Hopefully they have CMJ in their sights.
