It really is amazing how much can happen in just a year. Almost to the day today in 2016, I wrote one of my first pieces for The Line of Best Fit on the Bloomington-based band Hoops. Since then, Hoops, started as the bedroom project of Drew Auscherman (vox, guitar), has continued to accrue buzz with Kevin Krauter (vox, bass), Keagan Beresford (vox, keys, guitar), and James Harris (drums) all in the fold.
So what does 2017 hold for Hoops? Plenty, as the band is set to release a debut LP, Routine, with a busy national tour schedule including some festival dates. The album’s lead single, “Rules,” is a punchy piece of fuzz-pop that takes Hoops’ knack for crafting warm, angular, guitar-led structures and delivers plenty to chew on in just above 2 minutes.
Stream Hoops’ “Rules” below and look for one of the most anticipated debuts of the year in Routines out May 5th via Fat Possum Records.
