Settling between pop sensibilities and raspy punk guitars, Martha gets it all right. “Ice Cream and Sunscreen” is a tiny track that packs a huge punch, launching itself halfway into an insanely great tirade of aggressive licks. The beginning of the song, on the other hand, is soft and delicate. It’s a track that soothes and stings at the same time.
The vocal work in this song is lovable and kind, reminiscent of SWMRS. Then it explodes and becomes the pop punk jam you’ve been seeking after a long time of sifting through the duds. It’s dancey and bright – this track is simply stunning.
Martha will release their second full-length album on July 1st via Dirtnap Records. If you’re looking for something cool to do for two minutes today, make sure you listen to “Ice Cream and Sunscreen” – then listen to it again, and again. And again. Check it out below.
