I am always amazed by songs that seem so simple, but are so catchy. This is not to say writing a “simple song” is easy, because it isn’t, but theres a certain resonance that songs either have or they don’t. It seems that Mister Goblin’s “Hook In The Eye” does.
Is the result of Sam Goblin attempting to put himself in the shoes of the phone scammers who are running plays on senior citizens, such as his own grandmother. Goblin creatively illustrates the circumstances that may bring someone to the level of moral depravity that is required to scam the elderly.
With a slow tempo, stripped down verses and an anthemic hook, Goblin has created what is equally an interesting and satisfying listen.
This song, and the rest of Mister Goblin’s recent album Four People In An Elevator And One Of Them Is The Devil, was released on February 19th via Exploding In Sound Records and can be streamed down below.
