What originally began as the solo venture of Northern NJ-based songwriter Olivia Riggio, indie-pop quartet Olive & the Pitz brings her infectious stylings to further fruition. Joined by Kyle Cooke (guitar) Ross Greenberg (bass) and Nick Iacobelli (drums), the band initially popped up on local bills last year and recently released their debut EP, Landlocked.
The EP’s lead single, “East Bumblefuck,” perfectly captures that lost feeling we all have when employing that far-flung, imaginary locale. On the track, Riggio weaves her frustrated narrative with her pitch-perfect voice as the rest of the band brilliantly washes in and out with intensity like a tide adding weight to each of her lyrics. Sprinkle in some well timed “woos!” and a whirring crescendo and you have yourself a more than filling slice of indie-pop pie.
