New Politicians

Based out of Centerville, NJ, post-punk outfit New Politicians started in late 2012 with Gian Cortese on guitar, keyboards and vocals and his brother Renal Anthony on vocals and guitar. The band then expanded to a quartet, with Erik Watson on drums and Winston Mitlo on bass, and have since cut their teeth in the tri-state scene, becoming regulars at the Court Tavern.

How they have eluded our so call Good Eye for so long is beyond me, but such is the beauty of new music discovery and the wealth of talent in the great Garden State.

New Politicians have just dropped their new EP, Remission, with track “Been In The Wars” jumping out at me upon first listen. It’s got that lush, shimmering quality that meets in the sweet spot where Sonic Youth ends and Interpol begins. Watson’s precision work behind the kit allows for the rest of the band to work up an atmosphere that culminates in an instrumental bridge you feel like you could almost swim in.
