Formerly a fixture of the NJ scenes with his band Lightning Jar, Sean Marshall made the move to Columbus, Ohio while taking the time to gather inspiration for his next stride forward. Stepping out on his own, backed by a new band The Near Miss, Marshall draws from the emotional well and challenges of adjusting to a new home.
Released last week and appropriately titled New, Marshall presents a more mature and fully realized sound on his latest solo offering with single “In the Bare” as serving as a great initial entry point. On the track, the songwriter lays out his soul with a rich, textured alt-Americana sound evoking heartstring pluckers and heartland lovers Ryan Adams and Lord Huron.
Marshall shares:
“‘In the Bare,’ is the album’s single, partially because I like the way it came out musically, but also because it typifies the whole album’s sentiment. I use a pretty cliche symbol of nudity to represent vulnerability. Essentially I am saying, ‘I hope you need me as much as I need you right now.'”
