About 45 minutes drive southeast from Amsterdam sits the city of Utrecht which is known for its beautiful, ancient and historical religious sights. It’s appropriate then that the shoegaze trio Stillwave takes up collective residence there as their music finds a certain euphoria in impossible desire.
Stillwave are readying a new EP, The Heim, before heading back into the studio to work on a proper full-length debut. With a strong cache of singles in their rearview, the band now shares the brooding cut “What Have You.”
On “What Have You,” Stillwave build a dark, swirling atmosphere against unrelenting drum patterns. Marcel Jongejan’s lead vocal take helps to tighten and ease up on the overarching tension of the track not unlike Tom Fleming of Wild Beasts’ smoldering baritone.
Stream Stillwave’s “What Have You” below and look for The Heim out May 13th.
