Sunflower Bean. Where do I begin? This trio is by far my favorite Brooklyn band, and their released recordings got nothing on their live show. I’ve seen them a handful of times all over NYC, and every time I’m amazed by their energy and ability to throw down. I dub them the “Sunflower Babies” because they’re youngins, but that doesn’t take away from their ability to rock n’ roll that 90s angst that’s just oozing out of the underground this year.
“The Stalker” is the trios latest single and comes from the band’s upcoming 7″ which drops on the 24th via Fat Possum. There’s a tinge of Led Zeppelin with the heavy bass lines and energetic electric guitar riffs. Julia Cumming’s ethereal and haunting voice is complimented by Nick Kivlen’s ghostly growl.
That “Ooooooh, oooh, ooooh, oooh” cooing is contagious. I can’t wait to hear them throw this track down at their next BK show. Be sure to stream the “The Stalker” below.
Sunflower Bean will celebrate the release of their 7” with a show at Rough Trade in Williamsburg on July 30th. According to their Soundcloud, they’ll also be hitting The Saint on July 25th, but no official confirmation yet.
