New Jersey post-punk outfit The Antics have undergone a lot of changes despite frontman and principal songwriter Luke Meisenbacher still being in college. Lineup shifts and new influencers has led to a pensive, more mature sound.
That sentiment is echoed by The Antics’ latest EP, Emily Jones. On it, Meisenbacher continues extrapolating his modern take on Joy Division, with the title track bouncing with a dark energy that begs to be seen live. “I Want To Understand” has an interesting, rhythmic skiffle to it while “Effects” dives head first into a dream-pop soundscape.
The EP closes with the driving “Take A Sip”, the previously released “When I’m Alone” and a the “Riders On The Storm”/Apocalypse Now soundtrack style closer “Forget” which builds and explodes upon itself in a furious blaze.
I’d recommend catching some of these great new tunes live on June 11th at Mexicali Live. There’s a rumor that Colton Kayser is joining The Antics on lead guitar, and I know this because it’s totally true. Not really a great rumor I suppose. Listen below and get to Mexicali Live on 6/11!
