If you’re into Jimmy Eat World, you’re bound to love Total Slacker. The Brooklyn-based band is forceful in nature but pop-centric when it comes to melody and song structure. Without giving away too much, you should just listen to their new single “Turn On The Lights” and prepare to fall hopelessly in love.
The song starts with a powerful guitar lick and jumps straight into the first verse. Tucker Rountree is humble in his vocal performance, not quite pushing to its full potential until the chorus, which is explosive and methodical. This track is surely indie rock, but it has undertones of electro-pop, which makes it that much more lovable. “Turn On The Lights” is a fun summer jam that I could see being played in any cool Brooklyn bar.
Total Slacker will release their new LP, Parallels, out August 19th via ONErpm/Verge Records. Be sure to check out “Turn Out The Lights” below.
