Starting off primarily as the solo venture of Yonatan Tietz (vocals/guitar), Oakland-based genre-defying group Wicked Man has evolved three-fold in sound, vision and scope. Late 2014/early 2015 saw the additions of Justin Kohlberg (guitar, bass), Andrew Kunz (keyboards, vocals) and Max Denny (drums) leading to a busy year of touring all up and down the US west coast.
On top of that, Wicked Man are currently readying the release of a debut EP of sorts, Terranean Tremors, out November 6th. Amidst the pre-release and tour buzz, the band dropped lead single, “Soil Leaking Water,” which brings a more naturalist vibe to modernist electronic-rock groups like Alt-J and Glass Animals.
Swirling guitars pivot on a dime with shifting, dynamic rhythms as Tietz’s vocal take entices with a unique energy. Teased by this track and the upcoming EP, Wicked Man are a part of a sonic universe ready-made for a busy festival summer next year, while occupying a space that’s entirely their own.
