Last year, I was introduced to the wonderfully talented, multi-dimensional Brooklyn-based group Zula in premiering their then single, “Getting Warm,” and featuring another here, “Basketball.” Now, the band is gearing up to release a new EP, 6 Passes, via Forged Artifacts.

The short player is led by “Anything For You,” a rippling, layered, spacious track to lose yourself in that builds on what made me fall for Zula hard in the first place.

As the band’s Henry Terepka adds:

“‘Anything For You’ combines a bunch of elements that we really love as a band: a breakbeat shuffle, a reflective headspace, and an intensified feeling of desperation or running in place. The song’s syncopated rhythm developed out of a jam with bassist Noga Shefi in Fall 2014. The lyrics were inspired by white-male domination as embodied, experienced, and witnessed in private homes, on college campuses, and in seats of power.”

Stream Zula’s “Anything For You” below, pre-order the 6 Passes EP here and catch them on 10/16 with Combo Chimbita, Erica Eso, and Frank Hurricane at the Park Church Co-op in Brooklyn.
