It’s rather conceited to believe that the only intelligent life (and for the most part unintelligent life, this penman included) to call the universe home resides on this particular space rock. And London’s Quiet Quiet Band is here to remind us that when the aliens do invade it might not be a Spielberg carbon copy with a shiny finger…but rather something much more dangerous.
Or at least that’s the vibe provided by Quiet Quiet Band’s latest piece of pit-churning folk-punk “Battery Human”. The turbulent string-driven barrage of gut-punching percussion and ominous overtones sees frontman Tom Purcell playing the shady extra terrestrial with an expert poker face. “I’m coming to your planet/I’m coming with gifts,” Purcell snarls. Whether it’s a peace offering or threat, we won’t know until removing the bow.
With that said, “Battery Human” is undoubtedly a gift from the cosmos and a wonderful taste of what resides on Quiet Quiet Band’s 2015 LP Low Noon, which is slated for a March unveiling.
