Well just when you were settling in for a nice Sunday dinner and a little bit of Devils hockey, an innocent check of the Twitter stream revealed this sudden announcement:
So there’s that. Multiple sources have corroborated the claim. According to Consequence of Sound, “We checked in with the band’s management prior to the performance and were told that a release date is still unknown.” The pending release, of course, marks the band’s first since releasing their classic Loveless album all the way back in 1991.
Of the new album, My Bloody Valentine frontman Kevin Shields said in a November interview with NME:
“I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that’s about it – some people think it’s stranger than ‘Loveless’. I don’t. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it’s 100 per cent necessary.”
Jim Appio AKA Cool Dad Music is excited, and had some interesting notions in response. The concert still is ongoing, but My Bloody Valentine have already debuted a new song! Stay tuned for more as it comes.
UPDATE: Here’s the new track. It’s called “Rough Song”.
