We all have the people, places or things we retreat to when faced with the realities of life, and for session bassist and composer Tom Crandles that serves as thematic inspiration for his new work as Prudence. Described as “an amalgamation of all things holy and sinister,” the Major Tom EP finds Crandles exploring the dichotomy in laying out the euphoric and otherwise through a medium that inspires the same feelings in the artist.
Today, Speak Into My Good Eye is happy to be bringing you the exclusive premiere of Prudence’s “Smile & Nod.” The track winds pop-rock songwriting through a post-punk atmosphere reinforcing the push and pull surrounding the EP. The serotonin-burst chorus rises up like the first step onto a beach as Crandles keeps the darker sonic elements at the shoreline but relentless rippling out.
“‘Smile & Nod’ is a song that was planted with a bassline that quickly grew into a pulsating pop song about the overwhelming lure of some of life’s vices.”
