Three members of the feminist Russian Anarcho-Punk outfit Pussy Riot, that’s courageously taken on the corrupt Putin-run government and the Russian Orthodox Church with an improvised and unscheduled musical protest in March inside the hallowed Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, has been found guilty this morning of “hooliganism driven by religious hatred” and have since been sentenced to two years in prison, a jail term stressed by the prosecution for the group had “Abused God,” as well as “crudely undermining social order” with their protest, while displaying a “complete lack of respect” for religious believers.
One of the imprisoned, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, stated prior to the sentencing that “Our imprisonment serves as a clear and unambiguous sign that freedom is being taken away from the entire country.”
After the decision was handed down, those members of the group not detained released a new single titled “Putin Lights Up the Fires,” which can be viewed below courtesy of The Guardian:
