The formula is simple:
5 of New Jersey’s finest underground rock collectives + 1 practice space in Clifton = Space Jamz, a superb pentagonal split EP featuring new music from such luminaries of the scene as Holy City Zoo, All Sensory Void, Lake Effect, France (the band), and NGHTCRWLRS.
“The practice space is where the true machinations of every band are worked out,” reads the official collective statement by Frank DeFranco, Eric Goldberg, and Joe Lanza who front the Garden State’s latest imprint Sniffling Indie Kids. “It’s where the music, and very purpose for being in a band, is hashed out and created.”
“The practice space can hold moments of utter transcendence and moments of absolute frustration, sometimes within the same session. It is a place where everything else that comes along with being in a band is invariably shut out and the only thing that really matters is the music.”
Such is the thought process that spawned Space Jamz, the inaugural release by Sniffling Indie Kids (members of Holy City Zoo, The Nico Blues, and All Sensory Void) and, what’s more, a celebration of New Jersey’s burgeoning underground arts community.
“It’s the perfect official debut for Sniffling Indie Kids because it’s a celebration of New Jersey’s indie rock scene, and a glimpse into our little musical world,” the statement continued. “It shows what can be accomplished when a group of people works together to achieve something for no other reason than that they love doing it.”
This DIY release – from the recording and label creation to the artwork and physical copies – is scheduled to drop this Saturday (October 18th) with a coinciding release show at Smacktone Studios in Woodland Park featuring sets by Holy City Zoo, All Sensory Void, Lake Effect, and the likes.
