New Brunswick’s newest independent record label, Sniffling Indie Kids, is set to drop the self-titled debut LP from hub city favorite NGHTCRWLRS, and on this most snowy of Tuesday afternoons SIMGE is proud to provide a taste of what’s to come in “Smiling”.
NGHTCRWLRS’ lead single opens as a thank you letter of sorts to some of the greats – the Devil and Jesus Christ included – before transitioning into something much more unsettling, as discussions of fabricated cheshire grins take hold, guarding friends and family from the painful poetics delivered over a quiet-loud cacophony of reverberant pop arrangements.
In short, NGHTCRWLRS’ “Smiling” is the greatest Emo anthem Gouplove never wrote, and a triumphant cross section of accessibility and vulnerability displayed by this burgeoning collective of basement dwellers.
Stream “Smiling” below and be sure to see NGHTCRWLRS play it live on Saturday, Feb. 28th when the band headlines Dopeness in Jersey City for an official record release party featuring Cicada Radio, Dentist, and France. Find more information and RSVP here.
