A few weeks ago, we shared the hazy, nostalgic pop-rock of Austin based artist Silver Ships. With the vinyl release of his latest LP, Songs From A Room That Never Moves, fast approaching on September 30th, the talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Chazz Bessette debuts the album’s third single “My Dear Friend” with Speak Into My Good Eye.
The long-in-the-works track strips down the summery warmth of the record’s previously released material, taking a more somber, pensive approach towards writing a love song. Of the process, Bessette shares:
“I had found myself very poor and was living on the couch of a good friend, Naomi Cherie of Austin band Technicolor Hearts. I was not so cheerful at this time, and when I’d have a day off, she’d show me her favorite parts of Austin where wildflowers grew and other amazing things, which was a really nice departure from my typical day-to-day.
She went out on tour and I found myself missing the nice things she’d go out of her way to show me, and one night (for the first time in my life possibly), I wrote a positive song about the times we shared.
I just recorded it like a journal and stashed it away for years, before deciding to include it on the album – toward the end of the original demo, there’s a terrible crash where you can hear her dogs going bonkers about a passing car.”
