’90s Alternative-Rock bands appeared to share the same sentiment: “Deep cuts don’t keep the mansion running…write the hits.”
Maybe Nashville Garage-Punk revivalists Diarrhea Planet don’t have that creed etched into their normally ferocious foundation of sound, but they’ve certainly explored the notion on a new single titled “Bamboo Curtain”.
Complete with “ooh, oohs” and “ah, ahs” layered beneath sugary verses and syrupy refrains, this is Diarrhea Planet in its rarest form…one where its patented sonic assault has been traded for something much more poppy and accessible…That said, we’re till dealing with Diarrhea Planet, and the outfit’s barrage of guitars hasn’t completely dissipated upon “Bamboo Curtain”, but rather been quelled.
If nothing else “Bamboo Curtain” will certainly make for two minutes of tranquility amongst the sea of humanity primed to flood the pit at the Brighton Bar this Saturday (October 18th), where Diarrhea Planet with join JEFF The Brotherhood, Brick Mower, and Trans Charger Metropolis for the Aftermath Collective-presented and SIMGE-sponsored performance.
The show will also double as SIMGE’s official release party for its 24-Hour Songwriting Challenge Compilation…join us, and stream Diarrhea Planet’s “Heat Wave” below; and “Bamboo Curtain” at StereoGum:
