SIMGE Singles: Pearl Jam Goes Punk On “Mind Your Manners”

Chris Rotolo July 11, 2013 News No Comments

pearl-jam-lightning-boltThough Pearl Jam has always been regarded as the most diverse and accessible (read: least barbaric) outfit to emerge from the Seattle Grunge scene of the ’90s, with the band’s renowned prowess for Hard-Rock balladry and entire albums worth of ukelele-led pieces (I’m looking at you Eddie Vedder), it appears that with Lightning Bolt, the group’s forthcoming long-form collection due out on October 15th, yet another means of stylistic conveyance has been plucked from the arsenal and put on display.

Pearl Jam returned to the recorded music realm on Thursday with a brand new cut titled “Mind Your Manners”, and Lightning Bolt‘s lead single strikes hard, fast, and loud as a three-chord Punk-Rock ragetune that raises questions like: “Is this how Black Flag and Agent Orange could’ve sounded if they had a sense of melody?”

In short, yes, there is a distinct possibility that Pearl Jam might be one of the best Punk bands on the market and have deprived us basement dwellers of something all too spirited and emotionally explosive.
