That classic rock sound will never die. Aside from reports that last year’s top selling vinyl sales belonged to The Beatles and Pink Floyd, the legacy of the inventive and spirited approach to songwriting evident in all of those band’s releases is all around us.
Beyond just the name, Plastic Yellow Band is a prime example of that expansive sound presented through a modern lens. Their new album, Above Gravity, is titled perfectly as a good portion of the tracks give you a sense of aural weightlessness, floating in space.
Plastic Yellow Band is led by Gerry Jennings, inspired by the construct of Plastic Ono Band, as he serves as principle songwriter, producer and lead vocalist and guitarist. Jennings is joined by Joe Hurt on the bass and drummer Karl Derrick Tesch who combine to form a virtuosic force capable of exploring the full gamut of rock music.
From expansive, 21 minute psych odysseys to fiery blues burners, Above Gravity has something for the shaggy haired teenager in all of us and is today’s SIMGE Stream.
