Sydney, Australia-based indie-rockers Dappled Cities have experimented with a number of different pop lanes since their inception. The band’s latest vision, presented in the form of single “That Sound,” may just be the crux in the varied sonic roads they’ve been traveling en route to their most fully realized sound.
The gorgeous harmonies, driving rhythms and dynamic guitar on “That Sound” work all combine to form something evocative of classic 70s pop-rock, but still altogether purely Dappled Cities’ own. Think something along the lines of a Dire Straits or Steely Dan from an alternate, groovier universe.
To go along with a stream of “That Sound” we sent Alex from Dappled Cities the SIMGE Survey. Check out his responses below and look for a new LP, which will include “That Sound,” from Dappled Cities out later this October.

What sound(s) do you/your band make?
Indie rock is what I tell people. But probably weird pop.
If you could have anything fall from the sky what would it be and why?
I’d really like a 1968 Dodge Charger. Preferably in black, please. Why? I just like them.
When I was a kid I used to love to…
An embarrassing phase in my life was when…
I got into Green Day.
The 1st album I purchased:
The last album I purchased:
My biggest insecurity:
You can easily win me over by…
Getting me that damn Charger.
Sometimes when I feel sad I listen to Green Day because it’s sad.
After a show people compliment me most on my…
Something most people don’t know about me is…
That I have a big garage.
The band (artist) that altered my perception on life is Dappled Cities because caring about something that hurts you sometimes is an important life lesson.
If not for music I would probably…
Be really sad.
What are your favorite song lyrics?
Mary always hedges her bets
She never knows what to think
She says that he still acts like he’s
Scared that he’ll be caught
Without a second thought
Robert Palmer – “Johnny and Mary”
