It’s fitting that the latest from Kent Odessa, “Palms Hotel,” at least titularly, reflects the diverse ranges of places its creator recorded the album on which it will eventually appear. When crafting the LPs worth of material, Odessa laid down tracks in his hometown of Detroit, his adoptive hometown in Brooklyn and Los Angeles with some additional sketch work done while on tour in Mexico City last year.
“Palms Hotel” is a deceptively easy-going electro-funk cut with plenty going on in the layering to warrant repeat listens. There’s a bit of a dark undertone at play on “Palms Hotel,” as Odessa manages to strike a balance between moods both lovelorn and care free. Having Robert Lux on board likely helped a bit there.
To go along with a stream of “Palms Hotel” we sent Odessa the SIMGE Survey. Check out his repsonses and look for more from the artist here.

When I was a kid I used to love to…
Mess around with a Ouija Board.
An embarrassing phase in my life was when…
I was in third grade. I had an outbreak of warts on my hands for about six months. It really grossed out all my teachers and classmates. My parents took me to an awful doctor who recommended wearing duct tape on my hands to somehow suffocate the warts. It looked even more bizarre. Eventually, we found a good dermatologist who ripped off the duct tape and fried the warts off with a laser. My hands have been impeccable ever since.
The 1st album I purchased:
Nirvana – Nevermind.
The last album I purchased:
Ozzy Osbourne – Blizzard of Ozz.
My biggest insecurity:
Let’s not go there.
You can easily win me over by…
Cooking me fried chicken. Quoting classic Schwarzenegger.
Sometimes when I feel totally hopeless I listen to Jimmy Cliff because it makes the biggest obstacles seem surmountable.
After a show people compliment me most on my…
Something most people don’t know about me is…
I have hairy legs.
The band (artist) that altered my perception on life is Prince because of his relentless, fierce individuality.
If not for music I would probably…
Wouldn’t have made it out of middle school.
What are your favorite song lyrics?
