SIMGE Survey: Getting To Know Man Is Not A Bird // Stream “Life & Levity”

Man Is Not A Bird

The overall sound sampled on Paris-based quartet Man Is Not A Bird‘s latest effort can be summed up as thus; massive. The band’s first international release, the four-track Life & Levity EP, catapults listeners into cinematic soundscapes featuring towering post-rock infernos.

As evidenced on the EP’s title track, Man Is Not A Bird are continuing to, I can’t help myself, spread their wings as they work up a previously instrumental construction to inject the added weight of ethereal vocals. “Life & Levity” is a stellar entry port into Man Is Not A Bird’s current vision, not unlike if M83 went straight up post-rock.

We sent Man Is Not A Bird the SIMGE Survey to help get to know them a little better. Check out the responses while streaming “Life & Levity” below and snag your copy of the EP here.

Name: Man Is Not A Bird – but which one – the Man or the bird ?
Band: Man Is Not A Bird
Instrument(s): Man Is Not A Bird

What sound(s) do you/your band make?

A wall of sound.

If you could have anything fall from the sky what would it be and why?

A lover.

When I was a kid I used to love to…

Write emo songs in my bedroom.

An embarrassing phase in my life was when…

I broke my arm just before our first show in Paris.

The 1st album I purchased:

Sum 41 – All Killer, No Filler. I bought it in NYC when I was on holiday with my parents in 2001.

The last album I purchased:

Man Is Not A Bird’s new EP – Life & Levity.

My biggest insecurity:

Breaking a string on stage and not having another guitar.

You can easily win me over by…

Saying that you didn’t hear my vocals during the gig.

Sometimes when I feel sad I listen to Elliott Smith because it gives me hope.

After a show people compliment me most on my…

Hair.

Something most people don’t know about me is…

That I’m high all the time.

The band (artist) that altered my perception on life is Chris Cunningham because he’s doing the two things that I love the most – music & moving images. He also worked on Alien 3 which needs no further explanation in my book.

If not for music I would probably…

A pastry chef.

What are your favorite song lyrics?

Death Cab For Cutie – “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.”
