The Wrecks

My January hiatus will be coming to an end soon, and I will be back in the fold. There have been a couple of shows I have missed out on due to weather and work. I am about to embark on a trip to the homestead for a family wedding and once I am back February will be upon us.

I ended 2016 on quite a high musically thanks to the guys in The Wrecks. Took in two of their shows, saw them sell out The Saint and was very excited for them when I heard they were picked up by alternative rock label, Another Century.

It has been quite a first year for the California based crew. While they are now holed up and working on a new EP, we did manage to wrangle them down for a few minutes of their time when they were in town to complete our Getting to Know You Survey for you.

Without further ado, let’s get to know The Wrecks

If you could have anything fall from the sky what would it be?

Aaron: Tacos. Soft shell of course so no one dies.

Nick A: Like a really, really big bouncey ball. Could you imagine the bounce-back on that? That’s some serious kinetic energy. A few people might get hurt, but like hey… gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette.

Nick S: The new mint green Fender custom shop Tele with a solid rosewood neck

Harrison: An unlimited Chipotle card.

Billy: I say food trucks.

When I was a kid I used to Love to…

Aaron: skateboard. I would skate every day until I couldn’t feel my legs.

Nick A: be really involved with sports. Played baseball, football, and basketball most of my childhood, and then eventually picked up the dirty habit of writing songs early-on in high school.

Nick S:play guitar, surf, and do dumb shit with my friends

Harrison: wrestle, play video games, and get lost places with friends.

Billy: Hangout with as many people as I could and play sports

An embarrassing phase in my life was when…

Aaron: when I was in middle school and thought it was cool to get a perm… man was I wrong.

Nick A: I would try way to hard to dress and act “normal”. Somewhere out in the world there are haunting photos of a 12 year old me wearing super Aeropostale shirts, pooka shell necklaces, and whatever else the average middle kid wore in the middle 2000’s. Not really any better than my Myspace-scene kid phase in high school, but that’s another story.

Nick S: When I realized I’m a piece of

Schmidt and I’m always going to look and smell like schmidt

Harrison: I used to wear a fedora when I played shows, that was my shit.

Billy: When I bleached my hair… blonde

The first album I purchased…

Aaron: Ace Of Base “The Sign”

Nick A: Journey’s Greatest Hits

Nick S: far too many to remember

Harrison: Bon Jovi “Have A Nice Day”

Billy: Jefferson Starship

The last album I purchased…

Aaron: I’m a dick. S P O T I F Y

Nick A: Yeah, I’m with Aaron. I pretty much stream everything now. Been listening to Psychocandy by The Jesus and Mary Chain a lot recently though.

Nick S: Royal Blood’s self titled album

Harrison: Badflower “Temper – EP” new band that just signed to Republic, awesome EP

You can easily win me over by…

Aaron: tacos.

Nick A: smiling at me. Or talking to me. Or just acknowledging my existence, really..

Nick S: making meatballs

Harrison: flying me to Hawaii

Billy: buying me food

Sometime when I feel ________ I listen to __________ because _______

Aaron: drunk / Aaron’s Party by Aaron Carter / fuck yeah.

Nick A: nostalgic / old demos / every song hold memories and brings me right back to when I wrote it. Music is cool like that.

Nick S: sad/ my iPod on shuffle/ I wait for a comforting song.

Harrison: excited / Catfish & The Bottlemen / they’re f*#kin killer (sorry for the profanity, they’re a favorite of mine)

Billy: same as Aaron

After a show people compliment me most on my…

Aaron: ENERGY!

Nick A: uhm, my voice I guess, but mostly because i think they’re shocked that I can still talk after the show. I sing a few too many high notes in our set.

Nick S: passion

Harrison: hair, apparently I have this majestic mane that compels people to ask me what shampoo I use?

Billy: weird faces

Something most people do not know about me is…

Aaron: I started learning how to play guitar/bass after I graduated high school.

Nick A: I’ve struggled with depression for many years, but have a very good grip on it now.

Nick S:

Harrison: I constantly make fun of Billy for his interview answers

Billy: I play the drums

The band/artist that altered my perception on life is ___________ because…..

Aaron: Blink 182 because they’re the reason that made me want to be in a band and pursue music as a career.

Nick A: A singer-songwriter named Will Butler that I used to play music with back in my hometown, Wellsville, NY. The day we met, he heard me playing piano and singing at a school concert in middle school, and afterward he told me to cut the choir crap out and learn how to play guitar. He introduced me to albums and bands that I never would’ve thought to listen to, and subsequently majorly changed my views on music and writing. He changed my life in a very big way. I don’t know if that’s the right answer to your question.

Nick S: Red Hot Chili Peppers because they made me realize how much I love funk and gave me my mane

Harrison: Richie Sambora because he was my first major influence on guitar, Wanted Dead Or Alive was the first song I ever learned in full.

Billy: foreigner, they made me wanna play rock music

If not for music I would probably….

Aaron: be working a job I hate.

Nick A: be playing college baseball somewhere.

Nick S: be in the military

Harrison: I never put enough thought into this question, I’m not too sure what my life would actually be like without music. If I really had to pick something I’d say become a lawyer, I argue enough of the time so why not make a career out of it.

Billy: be a garbage man.. or a cop
