Flaming Lips

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of standing behind The National as they debuted “Sea of Love” on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” (I’m right behind the drum kit bopping around). When you’re The Flaming Lips, however, no such visible crowd energy is required as the band took up most of the 30 Rock studio with their currently touring sprawling stage set up.

Wayne Coyne and co. assuredly freaked out some audience members and people at home, not unlike their recent Letterman performance, as they performed The Terror stand out “Try To Explain” and a bonus cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” which the band makes all their own. Also, Coyne is stripped about as naked as they’ll allow on network television. Get a peek at The Flaming Lips 2k13 as we previously covered during their SXSW coming out party, and look for coverage from last night’s show at the Wellmont Theatre coming very, very soon.

The Flaming Lips perform tonight in Brooklyn with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Darkness.
